High-performance lime water reactor system with robust circulation pump for intensive mixing of the lime milk. Due to the extremely high calcium hydroxide loading, operation for up to several months without maintenance is possible.

A suspension (mixture) of water and powdery calcium hydroxide is kept in suspension in the reactor by means of a robust circulation pump. Above this white lime milk is the clear lime water. The incoming reverse osmosis water (or very soft water) reacts immediately in the KWR with the calcium hydroxide to lime water, which runs back into the aquarium or filter tank.

The aquarium water is enriched with calcium ions. Due to the very high pH value of lime water (pH12-13), the pH value of the aquarium is also slightly increased. At the point where the lime water drips into the aquarium water, precipitates (hydroxyapatite) are formed which carry phosphate with them. This reduces the phosphate concentration in the aquarium (phosphate precipitation).
The carbonate hardness is generally not increased.
