Empty filter with a diameter of 100 mm made of clear acrylic glass (PMMA) for different filter materials.

This simple filter can be equipped with different sieves and connections. Additional valves (drain, vent) as well as an electrode connection (also retrofitted) can also be added.

The feed water from the aquarium is pumped into the system by means of a bypass of the main pump or an additional feed pump. With the AquaCare empty filter the following filter techniques can be realized (additional material is required):

Submerged downstream operation: the water flows from top to bottom. If a fine filter material is used (e.g. quartz sand, zeolite), the filter can remove particles from the water; however, it must then be rinsed regularly; we recommend filling the filter only to 75% so that there is enough space for backwashing.

     15 mm sceens
bottom sieve:
     15 mm sceens plus filter sponge or
     depending on the fineness of the filter material, screen from 6 µm to 15 mm
We recommend a vent valve for operation.
Submerged upstream operation: the water flows from bottom to top. This method is used to be able to use abrasion-sensitive filter materials (e.g. activated carbon, lime materials, simple phosphate adsorbers, sulphur granulate).
Our recommendation:
top screen:
     15 mm screen; for fine filter material an additional filter sponge
bottom screen:
     15 mm screen plus filter sponge for fine material or
     depending on the fineness of the filter material, screen from 6 µm to 15 mm
Fluidized bed filter = Moving Bed Filter: the water flows from bottom to top at a high speed so that the filter material moves and cannot clog (e.g. quartz sand, zeolite, AquaCare +Globuli, high-performance phosphate adsorbers, bio pellets). The best effect is achieved with a fluidized bed insert. This filter is also available ready-made here in the shop.
Our recommendation:
top screen:
     15 mm screen plus filter sponge
bottom screen:
     fluidized bed screen and
     for filter material below 3 mm grain size, a non-return valve in the inlet
Trickling filter = trickle filter: the water flows from top to bottom over filter material - there is an air atmosphere in the filter. An air pump can be connected to the cover connection for more effective oxygen enrichment. A trickling filter insert and an additional connection (e.g. valve) are required. This filter is also available ready-made here in the shop.

4 mm or 8 mm screen
bottom screen:
depending on filter material size inserts from 15 mm to 4 mm

Gas filter or resin filter: the flow is from bottom to top. These filters are also available ready made here in the shop.
