The AquaCare plankton tube is useful for breeding phytoplankton (in combination with a light source, particularly T5 bulbs or LEDs) and zooplankton (in addition with a paddle scraper). The large net volume enable the fast growth of adequate mass of plankton. It is possible to disinfect the phytoplankton system chemically (e.g. with chlorine dioxide).

The tube is made of a acrylic glass (PMMA) cylinder with a bottom cone and a rigid top interlocking system. There are two hose connectors for aerating and de-aerating (4 mm nozzles) the culure. Two brackets for wall mounting are in the scope of delivery. It is possible to fix a sensor connector for measuring e.g. pH value.

The zooplankton tube is equipped with additional connectors and a paddle scraper to remove detritus from the bottom cone. Afterwards it is possible to suck off the deposits by a hose.

The phytoplankton tube has to be filled with artificial sea water (Not from a aquarium! Freshly produced sea water is better to make sure to have any contaminants.). Add a starting culture and the suitable algae medium.

For carbon dioxid supply and for moving the content large air bubbles are blown at the bottom of the tube. The phytoplankton tube needs light to get a breeding success. We recommend T5 bulbs or LED stripes - it is important to use a daylight spectrum.

The maximum breeding temperature should not exceed 30°C - maybe a fan must be installed against the lights.
