The AquaCare Plankton Tube can be used for growing phytoplankton (in combination with a light source, preferably T5 fluorescent lamp or LEDs) as well as for zooplankton. This small system is ideal for maintenance cultures. The system can be chemically disinfected (e. g. with chlorine dioxide).

The plankton tube consists of the MF₂ multi-function filter with the appropriate connections for air supply, an algae or sludge drain valve, internal silicone hose and a paddle scraper for removing deposits in the zooplankton reactor. The plankton tube can either be placed on a flat surface or attached to a wall with a clip (option).

An electrode holder cannot be installed for this model - choose a larger diameter plankton reactor. Alternatively, we can offer a gas-tight lid without a hole for the stirring scraper for pure algae cultivation, but with a measuring chain connection. Please ask for it.

The phytoplankton tube is filled with artificial seawater (no aquarium water!). Preferably freshly prepared, so that no undesirable algae or bacteria are present. In addition, there is an algae starter culture and the appropriate algae culture medium.
Coarse air bubbles are blown in at the lower end to supply the culture with carbon dioxide and ensure a steady movement. The phytoplankton tube must be illuminated to achieve a successful breeding success. We recommend T5 tubes or LED strips - in any case a daylight spectrum should be used.

For the cultivation of zooplankton, suitable food (preferably phytoplankton) and a starter culture are required.

The growing temperature should never exceed 30°C - a fan may have to be placed in front of the lighting.
