External overflow for aquariums for retrofitting - allows the connection between the aquarium and the lower filter tank. For all aquariums without overflow and those where subsequent drilling in the glass is not desired or possible.

The AquaCare ExFlow is made of high-quality acrylic glass and can easily be hung on the side or rear panel. The water flows through filter combs into the submerged part of the ExFlow and is led through the flow-optimised transfer tube into the external part. From there, the water falls down to the filter tank (LSS). To eliminate waterfall noise, we recommend installing an angle seat control valve or diaphragm valve in the downpipe.

The system is secured by an emergency overflow in the external part of the ExFlow. For further protection, a float switch can be installed in the inner part of the ExFlow, that switches off the return pump if the water level is too high.

The ExFlow is characterised by the following points:

double the comb length of the screen compared to conventional overflows
low accumulation height in the aquarium (height difference of the water level between operation and stop)
Dirt at the top edge of the comb only leads to minimal additional accumulation heights
fish-safe overflow screens (skipping is excluded because of a cover)

The AquaCare ExFlow can compensate one malfunction (extremely dirty sieves, wrongly adjusted drain or too high water inlet flow). However, a combination can lead to malfunction, so we strongly recommend checking the water level in the aquarium and switching off the circulation pump if necessary.

Technical systems operated with water can leak and cause water damage. If consequential damage is to be expected, the water treatment system should always be secured (leakage detector, drip tray with waste water connection, etc.).

Aquariums with external overflow can always overflow if maintenance is neglected. Extremely dirty filter grids in particular can impair the function. Due to the system, an emergency overflow cannot be installed in the aquarium. If the cross-section of the drain pipe is narrowed or the minimum drop height is not reached, the maximum performance can no longer be achieved. If the ExFlow is operated below the minimum volume flow, it is possible that air will collect in the transfer pipe and cause the water level in the aquarium to rise.

The following sequence should be observed for commissioning:

Mount the ExFlow on a side or rear window.
Fix the distance of the ExFlow with the fixing strip.
Secure the ExFlow against tilting with the enclosed plastic screws inside and outside.
Connect the drain: it should end in the filter tank just below the water surface; use an angle seat control valve or diaphragm valve for control.
Connect the emergency overflow: it should end just above the water surface. Do not use a valve in this line.
Close the drain completely.
Fill both chambers of the ExFlow with aquarium water.
Use the suction hose to suck air out of the transfer tube. A little water may need to be added to the rear chamber during suction.
Close the suction hose with the supplied hose clamp if water appears in the suction hose.
Open the drain completely.
Put the return pump (from the filter basin to the aquarium) into operation.
If the water runs from the aquarium into the inlet chamber of the ExFlow, you can read the actual water flow from the engraved scale (only with completely) opened drain valve!
Now slowly close the drain valve until the drain pipe contains no more air bubbles and the bubbling noises have completely disappeared. From the emergency overflow should run at most a small amount of water.
If you operate the ExFlow far below the permitted maximum flow rate, it can happen that the water from the aquarium falls noisily into the inlet chamber. In this case you can reduce the drop height by inserting a PVC pipe in the emergency overflow.

We recommend that the return pump be fitted with a shut-off device to prevent flooding if the water level in the aquarium is too high.

If the fall height of the drain is less than 80 cm and you still want the full water capacity to run through the system, then please select the drain valve (angle seat control valve, diaphragm valve) one size larger and adjust the drain diameter accordingly. We will be happy to advise you.
