Chemistry&Physics

Without the basic knowledge of chemistry and physics, it is difficult to operate a marine aquarium. Especially when troubleshooting and eliminating the causes of faults, this knowledge helps to find a solution. While in freshwater aquariums only very few parameters are crucial for the success of a magnificent underwater landscape, in marine aquariums the number of values to be considered is enormous and the range of optima very narrow. For stony coral aquariums, the control of even trace substances is very important to prevent deficiency symptoms. Without the analytical tool ICP, which has been available to the hobby aquarist for a relatively short time, many problems could only be remedied by chance or a lot of experience.

In this chapter we go into the important elements and compounds that can make the difference between success and failure. Summary abbreviations are also listed here.
