52 Carbon dioxide reactor

Product no.: LexF52

Carbon dioxide is dissolved in water to lower the pH. Plants and algae are supplied with carbon. This method is particularly widespread in the freshwater sector. In marine water, carbon dioxide fertilization is used only in special cases.

There are different ways to get the carbon dioxide (CO2) into the water:

  • Carbon dioxide domes: here a carbon dioxide filled container ("dome") is hung in the water with the open side down. The effectiveness is only low.
  • Disperser: a diffuser system is attached to a water outlet of a pump or filter into which CO2 bubbles. Carbon dioxide loss can be high.
  • Column: Here the aquarium water runs in a closed container over filling material. There is a carbon dioxide atmosphere in the container. Depending on the system, the output can be so high that pH control may be necessary.
