60 UV irradiation

Product no.: LexF60

Hard UV radiation (UVC) has a destructive effect on the DNA of organisms below a wavelength of approx. 300 nm. Therefore, a UVC lamp can be installed in a separate chamber or tube. The water to be treated flows along the UV lamp. All organisms in the water such as bacteria, algae, cyanobacteria, protozoa and swarming stages of parasites are damaged by the radiation and die.

UVC lights help with:

  • Algae blooms
  • Bacterial blooms
  • Parasites spreading through swarmers, e.g. spot disease

For disease-sensitive or highly stress-sensitive fish, e.g. white-throated tang, UV irradiation should be continuous. The same applies to fish-only tanks. In colorful coral aquariums there are perfect examples both with and without UV treatment.

It is important that the illuminant - mostly discharge tubes - is replaced approximately annually to ensure adequate performance. Large systems monitor the performance by means of a UV sensor.
