Open-pored filter sponge for use in AquaCare filters and lime reactors, coarse pores; approx. 20 mm thick

The Smart Filter is an individually applicable empty filter that can be filled with a wide variety of materials. Whether for gas treatment such as drying filters or carbon dioxide adsorbers ( breathing lime) or for water treatment as activated carbon, nitrate resin, phosphate or calcium carbonate filters the Smart filter is suitable for all purposes. Likewise, the smart filters can be used for reverse osmosis systems: Activated carbon pre-filter or mixed bed resin behind the RO unit. 
The Smart filter can also be used for sound damping in the case of loud skimmer air intakes; for this purpose it is simply filled with filter cotton wool. In this configuration it can also be used as a paticle filter in front of the adjustment valve to prevent clogging of the valve. The proper functioning of nitrate filters and lime reactors is only guaranteed with a constant feed.

The filter can be screwed on from both sides and is equipped with fine filter sponges so that fine filter material can also be used. Two wall clips are included to attach the Smart Filter to a wall.

MediaCup for Basic filter system and other filter devices. A wide variety of filter materials can be filled into this cup. Coarse materials can be filled directly, for fine materials up to approx. 5 mm a filter sponge is supplied. For very fine materials smaller than 5 mm we recommend the use of a filter stocking. 

This filter material cup can be installed in different ways:

1. It is simply hung on the lower bars of the Basic filter basin in the 1st chamber. The water supply is done with the incoming water to the Basic system.
2. The cup is hung on the upper bars of the Basic filter basin and a water inflow is established. With this method, a defined flow can be set if, for example, the concentration is to be lowered slowly and in a defined manner with phosphate removers.
3. The MediaCup is screwed onto the bar of the 3rd chamber of the Basic filter system at any position using the wing screws provided and supplied with water as in the previous method.
4. The MediaCup can be placed in any filter basin. Only an inlet must be designed. 

Please note that the MediaCup is 20 mm wider than the standard holders of the Basic system.

Filter with screens for different filter materials. The water flows from the bottom to the top (upstream) or from the top to the bottom (downstream) through the filter. Fluidised bed and trickling filter processes are also possible.

Reactor with a diameter of 100 mm made of clear acrylic glass (PMMA) for different filter materials.

This reactor can be used for the fluidized bed process with variable feed. Different screens are available for various filter materials. A drain valve and a measuring chain connection can also be added (also at a later date).

Field of operation of the AquaCare reactor:

• PO4-X reactor: To prevent the phosphate concentration in the aquarium from dropping too quickly, the independent adjustment of the water supply to the reactor is necessary. Especially SPS corals react very sensitively to a too fast decrease of the phosphate concentration. The lower the inflow is set, the slower the phosphate level will drop. The fluidized bed is kept intact thanks to the integrated circulation pump and makes optimal use of the valuable adsorbent material.

• POC+Globuli: It may also be useful here to reduce nitrate and phosphate concentrations more slowly than would be possible with the full fluidized bed output.

• A heterotrophic denitrification filter (operated with organic C-source) with quartz sand as bacteria growth body is also possible. In this case it is even crucial that the inflow is extremely throttled in order to be able to establish anaerobic conditions and thus a nitrate reduction in the filter. A redox measuring chain can be integrated in the lid. An additional T-piece is required in the inlet for dosing the C-source. A drop counter is practical for adjusting the water inflow.

• This reactor can also be used to construct a simple lime (calcium) reactor. Only a T-piece in the feed, a drop counter for the feed water and a CO2 supply consisting of bubble counter, check valve and CO2 pressure bottle are additionally required. A pH control system can also be installed with a measuring chain connection; this requires a pH controller with pH measuring chain and solenoid valve. Suitable filter materials are Turbo-calcium granules, crushed lime or crushed coral.

• With the same additional parts, a magnesium reactor can also be constructed. Only a different filter material is necessary: Turbo Magnesium.
