The challenge in the year 1999 was enormous: in a 11 m3 double aquarium system with one aquarium in the living room and the other in the cellar, hard corals grew so strongly that the previously installed aquaristic technology could not produce enough dissolved lime. The new Turbo Chalk Reactor to be developed was built (the current size 5 of the aquaristic series products) and tested. The dissolved lime values increased significantly. However, after a short time the hard coral mass increased in such a way that concentrations of calcium and carbonate hardness decreased again. Size 7 - the prototype for the industrial versions - had to be developed, designed and built. The dimensions of the system were so considerable (2 x 1.7 m) that the system had to be installed in the garage. The success was resounding: with only a few hours of operation per day, the Turbo Chalk Reactor produced enough dissolved lime to supply even the largest coral stocks.
